Poster designed by Seth Rader. Just add letterpress effects and you’re good to go.

i know what it is. its called individual aesthetic.
not every designer does vintage and grunge.
i know some designers who are great at it - but the worst thing you can do is design a certain way because its “in”.

Picked up my senior yearbook today.

April 26, 2012

I remember as a kid looking at my mom’s college yearbook - she graduated from Amherst College in MA in 1980, which was the first class of women admitted to the university. Her yearbook was so…dated. Granted, time had taken it’s toll and the pages had yellowed a bit, but the design was just…dated.

So when I walked into the yearbook office to pick up my copy, my heart sank when I saw the covers were brown. Not even a pretty brown. Like a old, dated poop brown, a brown that make the yearbook look like it had already been on my shelf for 20 years.

But as soon as I opened the first page I was blown away. The design is simple, beautiful, and elegant. The typeface choices are sophisticated and nicely used. Ashley Calarco, the editor-in-chief and a fellow graphic design major at Newhouse, did a fantastic job.

As soon as I had started reading through the yearbook I completely forgot about the color of the cover. The brown used on the inside of the book was much nicer, used sparingly, and didn’t remind me of human excretion in the slightest. The photos are beautiful, the layout is simple with few consistent design elements used throughout, and there is plenty of beautiful, beautiful white space.

Another lesson in not judging a book by its cover…literally.

Color - Method of Action is a game that tests your color matching skills in a variety of ways.  It starts off easy and get progressively harder with seeing how closely you can match the colors you’re given.
Take the test
I got a 9.2  What did you get?

8.4 - got paranoid about the time limit >.>
